This is the first arc of a four-arc book titled "The Last Good Doctor." The story centers around a man named Wallace in the dangerous City of Dordain, where slavery, homelessness, and corruption run rampant. After being abandoned by his parents and surviving on the streets, Wallace would meet a set of twins named Michael and Melena after a dangerous encounter in an alleyway. The three would become a family as they cared for one another and slept close to stay warm. After being homeless until the age of 10, Wallace would contract a nearly fatal illness that the three can't seem to treat. With no doctor they could afford and Wallace's condition worsening, he ventures into a cold winter night to break into a Plague doctor's shop and find supplies. After breaking in, he would shortly pass out as an elderly woman finds him unconscious in her store. Wallace does not know it yet, but this woman would eventually take him as an apprentice in making potions and tonics. However, he doesn't realize this woman would become his anchor towards staying kind despite living in a city of depravity. This can not be said for the twins though.
