'Casey, darling?', she heard her father yell from downstairs, 'Will you come down for a second?' 'Yeah dad, I'll just finish my letter to Sarah and then I'll come down!' Casey yelled. Okay, that's fine but don't make it too long!' He shouted back to her. She finished her letter to Sarah as fast as she could, she hadn't seen Sarah for so long and she really missed sher BFF. She could've texted her too, but they had this thing where they send letters. It's an old thing and they both really liked writing. This time is was her mom that yelled, 'Caseee, please come downstairs, we need to talk for a second!'

The house next door goes up for sale, the dreaded day arrives in which its been sold and now the only thing left is to find out whose moving in. "Good news hunny the new neighbours are moving in today and I've invited them around for dinner" my mum said excitedly. "Oh baby girl don't cry, it will all be okay, we don't want you to replace Lily but we do want you to be civil at least because what happened was not your fault or the Hunts okay" my dad cooed as he soothed me and sent me upstairs to get ready for the welcoming dinner.

As I see my mom walk out the door I look at my dad smiling at me. The way he smiled at me made realize how afraid he was. I glance at him and give him a fake smile before he comes up to me and gives me a hug. The warmth of his body was reassuring but I feel the tears start to come down his face. She was neither in the popular group, nor one of the many cliched outsiders. Sarah was a nobody. She liked to blend in and lay low. It was her way out of not only this town, but her house. No one knew it, but her father was a high functioning alcoholic that often took his anger out on his family. With her older sister now in college, it had turned to her more often. Laying low in general was a good strategy. Across town, Ryan was prepping for his final year in high school. While he wasn't the stereotypical quarterback of the football team, he did fit into the popular crowd. His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either. It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds. ------------------------------------------ This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote.
