GEN Academy, a renowned high school known as the "academy city on water", is famous for creating some of the world's most successful people upon graduation. GEN Academy specifically invites certain students to come learn in its eccentric curriculum designed to create the best future for them. The school promises two things: firstly, all students will graduate into the career of their choice, and secondly, all students are given remarkable freedom!

Takanori Yuuto, an average teenager with no specialities or skills, is strangely pulled aside by the famous Mikazuchi-sensei to partake in a different entrance exam to everyone else. Takanori will play Vanguard against Mikazuchi-sensei in a fight that will determine his fate in the school. If Takanori wins, he becomes King of GEN Academy. If Takanori loses, he becomes the worst student-?!

Upon entering GEN Academy, Takanori is assigned to E Class, alongside his close friend from middle school, the beautifully captivating Kazuraba Yukina. The first hurdles in his new student life is the sharp 3rd Year student, Mikazuchi Kaido, an indestructible iron wall that he cannot defeat, and the capricious X, who is moving behind the scenes to take advantage of his innate potential.
