"Get away! Don't touch me!" I warned. Though I couldn't help the tears that began to form in my eyes out of fear and the pain in my wound. "I ain't gon' to hurt you, miss." His southern accent was thick, yet endearing. His teeth slightly crooked, but cute. The tone of his voice was calm and low. He was a soft-spoken man. At the end of the day, it was probably just an act to try and gain my trust faster. Unfortunately for him it wouldn't work. Trusting no one was the only way to survive in this world anymore, especially now that I was all alone. His hair was a little curly, but honestly I figured he didn't mean for it to be. By the looks of it, he just hadn't fixed it that day.

In a post-apocalyptic world of ruin and strife, a teen girl by the name of Cathenna White tries to survive on her own after the tragic deaths of her parents and older brother. Her wishes to be on her own and take care of herself quickly diminish when she meets sly and cunning Houston Adler. Will he be able to get her to trust him, or will she never learn to get used to his presence? Will they be able to put aside their differences and learn to care for each other, or will she reject him like she has every other boy in her life?
