Though the rather old-fashioned practice of reproducing biologically and raising the smeets by hand is often considered retrograde and unorthodox, a small percent of the Irken population still did it. Not all Irkens possess the long-run patience to go through this, however. At least Red thought he didn't. Yet now he finds himself with a newborn smeet he must look after.
