As I opened my eyes all I could see was darkness. I tried to blink and brought my hands to my eyes to rub them.
Everything was still blurry but soon I see light and blurry figures all around me. They all seemed to be distressed, there was yelling but I couldn't quite tell what about.
I felt arms wrap abruptly around me and I was getting pulled off the surface where i had awoken. The person who grabbed was speaking in a hushed voice but i only caught some of their speech
"-remember W.I.C.K.E.D is not good."
And I did. That is still all I remember from before the maze. From before my life changed forever.

My breath quickens as the contraption I was forced into - who knows how long ago - moves. After what feels like an eternity, the space around me stilled, and I jerk forward, falling on my wrist painfully. Suddenly, a strip of light appears above me. As the light gets bigger, I blink and see unfamiliar faces observing me. The strong stench of exhaustion and sweat hit me. As I slowly get up, I see a boy apart from the crowd, watching me curiously.
