This is set in the aftermath of the outbreak, Nick and Ellis get separated before Nick could confess how he really felt for him and how he wanted to apologize for mocking and acting cold towards him during the apocalypse. Nick is living in New York, while Ellis stayed in Savannah, they write to each other through emails frequently because everyone they love is mostly dead and they like staying in touch with someone they're familiar with.

It's going to help if you've read the Heartstopper books plus This Winter and Nick and Charlie too I'm not going to lie.
