Riku and Selena have always been close ever since Selena has arrived on the island. Making friends with everyone, Selena has spent the most time with him. She always thought of him as an amazing friend, but Riku sees her as more than that. When the storm came, Riku tried to grab Selena, but was sucked into the darkness before he could. Selena and Sora got sent together to Traverse Town. Riku slowly became corrupted, wishing for someone to save him, wishing for Selena to save him.

Riku works at an ice cream stand where Sora and Kairi split up at, and so he decided to go eat ice cream there, but the silverette took an interest in the sad Sora. Sora feels as if his feelings aren't genuine because everyone really only likes him because of his looks and popularity, even though he only has one true friend.
