It has been seven years since Evelyn Crowley had stepped foot in the little town of Briars Bay. Now, she is desperate for her old life back. With her mother urging her to move far away after the divorce, Evelyn has left behind her home and the two most important people in her life; Gabriella Mortensen and Sean Avery.
Now eighteen, Evelyn is back in Briars Bay to hopefully reconnect with her old life. But, things have changed in the peaceful town. Gabriella is still the sweet, and cheery girl she's always been, but Sean is different. He's eremitic and filled with an unknown anger, which includes him wanting nothing to do with Evelyn.
But the longer Evelyn stays in the sleepy town, the more she realizes just how awake Briars Bay actually is. When bodies start floating ashore, Evelyn can't help but feel unsafe. Soon, townspeople begin to have a fearful frenzy and blame Evelyn for the deaths- After all, no one leaves Briars Bay without reason. But, lucky for Evelyn, Sean is the only one that thinks otherwise of it being Evelyn.
Desperate to find the answers to the Briars beach murders, Evelyn sinks deeper into paranoia, until it comes down to not only finding the murderer, but also proving that it's not always story book.
