The year is 2327. From ashes, the world rises anew. The artificial and natural come together to cooperate in a peaceful symbiotic relationship after failed attempts to achieve true artificial intelligence having resulted in oppression and subjugation. At the hands of the incompetent minority, withholding technological power and research, humanity had lost its freedom. Or such was the common mindset among the populace; the blame being shifted onto different groups, individuals, when in truth it was laying equally on all of us. Society, as shaped by stable and prosperous times, would find itself unable to cope with the forthcoming struggles. The first of The Shocks was about us, the simple people, being denied our animalistic, selfish lifestyles and our hedonistic desires by being forced into isolation. Isolation enforced due to pandemics, warfare and the unrelenting wrath of Earth itself. In its cave, the sinful human grew angry, insubordinate of authority, tearing down telecommunications towers, losing trust in leadership. This explosion of individualism eroded social structures and lead countries into economic decadence. Our perpetual, consumeristic nature slowly faded away. But with our negative traits, a great loss of life ensued as well. Billions of species had gone extinct, despite our best efforts for preservation. However, in the former half of the 22nd century, a glimmer of hope appeared when a group of brilliant minds gathered together. They called themselves, The Erudites; enlightened scholars in essence and form. With their blessings, order has been restored through the creation of the Golden Code, true autocatalytic artificial intelligence, able to evolve and develop itself beyond human comprehension. It came to be known as The System; a passive, benevolent entity having the sole purpose of protecting life, overseeing its evolution and mediating its expansion.
