Laura and Mason are just two kids fighting together, side-by-side. At just eight years old, the pact they made interwoven with magic solidified their promise - they'd never hurt each other for as long as they lived. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances pull them apart, and their next pact is not so friendly - they're mortal enemies forever. The idea seems good at the time until the two are thrown together once more for a new adventure. With an unexpected reunion and a resentment still boiling in both, they need to figure out the almost-adult-way to handle both their friendship and the dark circumstances looming above them. Switching between the past and the present, we follow the story of two young adults attempting to fight evil - and each other. Mysterious books, weird mailmen, and a full-out prank war ensue while the two magicians try to find their place in the world...and themselves.

"She emerged within a dark sea of green, shielding her eyes against the crescent moon's pale blaze. The twinkling stars hummed softly, discordant against the chattering birds below. The lush leaves rippled in the breeze, tempting Fi to dip her toes in for a swim. The wind blew at her back and she turned east to face it. The fresh air carried the salty spray of the Shimmering Sea. Although she could not see it, she knew it was right there. Her ears caught the distant waves crashing against the shore. One last step. She thought."
