JAEMIN CHOI is an Elemental. That's what the country of New Haven calls those with abilities based off the four elements: fire, earth, water, and air. Fire is Jaemin's expertise. However, being an Elemental has its disadvantages. They are quite often subject to intense discrimination and oppression. 
Being a part of the rebellion makes it easier on Jaemin. He can live it peace...for the most part. Somehow he got roped into embarking on this mission where he gets captured and put into a government experimental program on Elementals. He blames Mare, the leader of the rebellion, for bringing up AVALON MATHERS, a long lost friend from Jaemin's childhood, someone he's been in search of for years after her mysterious disappearance. It's brought to Jaemin's attention that Avalon has been in the program for a total of seven years dating back to the time she disappeared.
The program is brutal. Not talking about a few bumps and bruises. No, Jaemin and Avalon are on the brink of death multiple times throughout the tests they're put through. They want nothing more than to be free again. So, Jaemin, with the help of some friends, is determined to get both himself and Avalon out.
