Elizabeth lives in an old, bankrupt orphanage with her mysterious Japanese immigrant twin brothers, Toripuretto and Shi, she was born on the same year, same month, same day and same hour as them, yet they are not related at all, March 26, 1960 at 3:00 in the morning.
She also lives with someone else in the house.

With no eyes.
She had said she lost them to her grandmother, who went crazy and killed herself, crazy story to tell to a bunch of 6 year olds, Eli knows, she also said there wasn't a basement or an attic, Elizabeth wonders if their caretaker really is telling them the truth, they're never let outside the house.

But one day, Elizabeth gathers up the courage to go outside while her caretaker goes out, and what she finds is incredible.
She meets new people, friends.
She learns more about herself and her brothers.
