Have you ever questioned how a just God of unconditional love could punish people forever in hell when those people have merely committed a lifetime of sins? Did you know four of the six Christian schools of the first five centuries taught that hell was temporary and merely purified people, at which point Jesus would save them and restore them to heaven? Were you aware that hell's main descriptor-the word "eternal"-doesn't mean forever but rather "the world to come" or "age," depending on the context in which it's used? The nature of hell reflects directly on the character of God, which is why the number one answer Atheists give in regard to why they don't believe in God is that they would not serve a God who casts people into hell forever. Is hell doctrine unjustly defacing God's character, and can it stand the test of Biblical scrutiny? There are verses about God's will and attributes that say the following: - With God, all things are possible. - It is His will that none perish and that all repent - God does all that pleases Him in heaven, on earth, and below the earth. And in context, they all mean exactly what they appear to say. So if we put them all those verses together, doesn't that mean God has to have built our current system to eventually get us all to heaven, including those who end up in hell?" The Misunderstood Hell takes a logical, critical deep dive into these questions, and more, using the Bible, near-death experiences, the latest translation research, and the writings of the Church Fathers so that readers are better informed when determining what they believe about hell, God's loving nature, and His purpose for us all.
