In the small town of Ryland, Virginia, nothing ever seems to happen. The town goes so unnoticed, it sometimes doesn't even appear on maps. But this makes it the perfect spot for magical creatures to hide, and Ryland has its own secret society dedicated to investigating these supernatural happenings. Dakota Sycamore takes it as her duty as a member of the secret society to remain friendless and glare at everyone she meets. She is Ryland High's resident pessimist and loner, and that's exactly how she likes it. But soon enough, Dakota is dragged into a strange mystery involving missing children, an underground cavern, and her worst fear: teamwork. Will the secret society have the strength to save their town? And will Dakota ever have the strength to make even one friend?
