When Ash Farren was only 10, fire burst from her hands and killed her parents, causing her to be condemned to a life of misery at the horrible Warwick Orphanage. She has kept her secret for 7 years now, living in a world where practicing magic is punishable by death. But one day she is miraculously adopted, and she finds herself whisked away to a strange school where she discovers that magic isn't truly the horrible thing that people make it out to be. She encounters a familiar face and learns that there exist four well-hidden Elemental Societies who are training recruits from all over the world to master their powers, using anti-aging magic and powerful teachers to make sure their Students become the best of the best, no matter how long it takes. Ash is enrolled in the Flame Society, and she slowly rediscovers her powers of creating and controlling fire, and learns that she is much more powerful than she thinks. But soon after her enrollment, a strange rebellion begins to attack the Societies, and all four Societies hold tournaments to select the most powerful Students from each Element. The victors will go on a quest to investigate this mysterious rebellion before the Societies fight them head-on. Will Ash make it in the tournament? And what is the rebellion truly fighting for? In this new world, Ash and several other young Elementals realize that the world is a cruel place, and that people are not always who they seem to be.
