Annabeth is part of the Chases, the family that runs one of the departments of the Magistrates. Annabeth's father, Frederick, runs this department. It takes care of all petty crimes. Percy is the Chase's houseboy, a boy who serves the family with what they need. Annabeth is walking through town one day when she sees Percy steal some bread.
