Kate is about to commit suicide when a nearby stranger called Luke gets worried and decides to try to stop her. He succeeds, and they quickly become friends. They understand each other like no one else has. Kate meets Luke's sister, Emma, who ends up being her best friend. Luke shows Kate that there are people who can care about her, and how wonderful the world can be.
