When Enya Pierce was seven, her dad was killed in a car accident. Her mother quickly realised that she couldn't survive on her own, and remarried a rich older man.
Fast forward eight years and things are finally looking up for Enya. She's been living in various foster homes for the past five years, but now someone actually wants her.
Rich, kind, and well known, Chris and Brett seem like the perfect people to adopt her. She is thrown into their world of living under a microscope and getting more than she has ever wanted.
But it doesn't take long for her to seek out her mother. With the help of her new friends, Nate Luther and Dylan Moore, she sets off to find her.
But what happens when her mom isn't everything she's been holding on to for all these years?
Can Enya overcome her demons and realise that what she's been looking for has been right in front of her the whole time?

Growing up in a toxic environment, sixteen-year-old Jay Foster has always had psychological problems, coupled with a quick temper. But one night something happens which finally pushes him over the edge, and as a result, he leaves his house the next morning with two things: his mother's gun and a plan. Living with a neglectful and drug addicted mother wasn't easy for Jay, and it definitely didn't help that his father abandoned the family while he was still a child. He harbored a hatred toward his parents, and that hatred extended to almost everyone and everything around him, producing a very troubled and damaged young kid. As Jay enters high school, he becomes very intrigued with one of his classmates. Kind of obsessed, actually. Her name: Mikayla Keeler. Mikayla is very unique, and like Jay, she doesn't seem to fit in with her contemporaries. Instead, the two of them keep each other company, and their friendship very quickly escalates into a romantic and intimate relationship. Despite having Mikayla, Jay's troubles continue to burden him. He and Mikayla are fighting habitually, his home life is still unbearable, and his time at school is hardly any better, made worse by a bully named Calvin. Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school. With everything seemingly piling up, Jay is very close to his breaking point, and late one night he is blindsided by the unthinkable, pushing him much too far and effectively planting in his mind a cruel and horrific plan for revenge.

"You should care, Dylan. You would still be living in the back of a car, stealing from Seven Eleven! Is that what you want?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The "Four Musketeers." That's what they called them. If they weren't all together they were two on two. And they give zero fucks about life. The Adopted one The Bad boy The Player The Best friend Dylan is like most troubled girls. She doesn't care about her grades, she skips school, hangs with the wrong crowds, and hates her parents. But of course there's a reason for all of this. Dylan is adopted. Dylan has always struggled with being adopted and she tends to fight everything in life. Many bad memories cause her to be the way she is. She desperately wants to forget her past, including some bad things she experienced, but the memories stay stuck in her mind. Dylan has three best friends who help her get by. The only three people she 100% trust and doesn't like to. They all have their own problems and lies they tell, but they help each other through it all. Especially her boyfriend Vince, who would do absolutely anything for her. He would die a thousand times over before anyone hurt Dylan. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Dylan's not just my whole life, she makes my life whole. Some days she's the only reason I get out of bed. Without her in my life there is no point in living. She's like the air I breathe. Without her I can't live. She's my best friend and I will love her to the day I die." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This summer Dylan gets the opportunity to do what every guidance counselor has claimed she's always wanted to do . . . split up her family. Will she realize splitting up her family won't help anything? Or will she just not care? After all she was abandoned once. ‹‹Once upon a time, there was a special child who never aged. To protect it from harm, I hid it within myself, until one day I forgot it was there.›› Adele and Nina, two inseparable sisters, once believed their family was an unbreakable fortress - a safe place where happiness felt eternal. But in a heartbeat, that safety shatters, and their world is forever changed. Their father, their stedfast anchor, has disappeared without a word. The man who once loved them has moved on, leaving them behind. What they don't know is that their world has been turned upside down, and the reality they know is built on lies. For years, they will navigate life under this shadow, viewing their existence through a lens distorted by someone else's deceit, bearing the immense pain of betrayal. But breaking free from this fictitious world isn't easy, for it demands confronting an even harsher truth: the person behind the deception is the one they hold most dear. "Hope is a Gentle Flicker" is a story that explores the fragile dynamics of blended families, the weight of unspoken emotions, and the ways love can become entangled in misunderstandings and hurt. But maybe, amidst the darkness, there may still exist a light - a delicate, flickering light that refuses to be extinguished. A love that, though unspoken, persists, quietly illuminating their path. *** This book is a memoir based on real events from my life. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
