Prologue

~~~~
(Some of the prologue)
The icy wind was crisp against my soffented cheeks, brushing my clay features as I tucked back some noticeable bangs behind my small ears, as they began to fly around in small circles, dancing in the new breeze. My sneakers bounced gently off the dark pavement below. My ponytail seemed to curl in the nights' air, the glowing, dimmed stars blinking above.
Running track, it made my dramas and problems seem to dissolve into the Earths surface, sinking away until it was almost gone, so simple, really. I was told I was a natural, that it was amazing how fast I could disapear from view, but that was a lie. I put in more than enough hours, running in the morning, at track meetings, and then double the time at night.
It wasn't like a job to me, not even like a sport. When I run, I forget about the people nearby, I hear the wind in my ears and the gentle breaths of my own, and for a moment, one single, small, moment, I'm away from the world. As if, the tarp that separates me from the rest, is lifted. For even one, single, second.
Cass has no memories of her parents, only impossible dreams of waves and orcas and, sometimes, her mother's voice. When she and her adopted aunt return to the Pacific Northwest island--where her parents died twelve years before--Cass hopes the place will trigger long-buried memories. Instead, she discovers that the impossible is real, and that history is about to repeat itself. Unless she can stop it. ***Teaser*** The water hit with such a shock of cold that Cass thought she was going to pedal up and out of it again like some cartoon character. Instead, she flailed and splashed and smashed one arm against a piling as salt water poured into her raincoat & filled her shoes. "How do you like it?" Jason yelled. She spun until she could make out his form, black against gray sky. "What?" she sputtered. She dragged one arm from the water long enough to shove wet hair from her face. Jason became clearer: black hair dark above his yellow raincoat, arms crossed over his chest. "What the hell are you talking about?" "I asked how you like it, going for a swim in this water." She was open-mouthed with disbelief. It was a bad idea; a surge lifted her and slapped salt water into her mouth. Bile burned her throat as she coughed and all the while she was still flailing at the water, fighting the drag of shoes and clothes to keep afloat. She should kick them off-that's what you were supposed to do if you fell into the ocean with your clothes on-but she was only a dozen feet from the dock. Besides, it was her only coat. Jason watched her the way she'd watch a barracuda. "I know you're following me." "Following you?" What. The. Hell. She gave a mighty kick and tossed her coat onto the dock. Jason just stood there. "I nearly drowned last week, you know that? Now you show up as if nothing happened." "Last week," Cass said slowly, "I was in Argentina." Whatever he'd seen, it wasn't her.
She just scoffed, looking unbothered as always.Then she started walking towards me, and only stoping when our faces are inches apart. My heart skipped a beat as she leaned in towering me, allowing her warm minty breath to fan my face, and her cinnamon cologne to wrap my senses. I physically had to stop myself from taking a step back. "I'm just starting. I'll only stop when I make you cum moaning my name" she said seductively in a husky voice, sending shivers down my spine. I just stood there my cheeks flushed and my eyes wide. She gave me her stupid signature smirk when she saw the affect she had on me, and she's gone from my face. It was then I realized I've been holding my breath. What will happen between these two? Will love prevail when it's least expected? Will an angel and a bad girl work? Read to find out!!! "You dropped this." I heard a husky voice say. I turned around to look at what I dropped and realized it was my schedule. I gasped. Damn, I would have been fucked if I'd lost it. I guess I didn't put it in my bag... I looked up to thank him, but ended up not being able to find my voice. He's really attractive. Drop dead gorgeous attractive. Hot. He has brown hair that is spiked up in a messy way and shiny chocolate brown eyes that are hard not to stare at. His jawline was firm and he is extremely tall compared to my 5'3" height; he seems like he's 6'1". He looks in good shape -- the white shirt he was wearing showed off his broad muscular chest. He wore a leather-mans jacket from the school over the t-shirt, with black denim jeans, and converse. I swallowed. I snapped out of it and took the paper forcing myself to say "thanks." However, he walked away before I even finished. OK... he obviously isn't interested in the 'new girl' like all the other students are. I can't help but feel a bit disappointed. Out of all the guys that have hit on me in school today he is the only one that has caught my eye -- bad news is that he didn't even bother. "You know him? I'm surprised the cheer-bitch hasn't threatened you yet." Jessica said, her face showing shock. "Um, no I don't know him... and cheer-bitch?" I frowned confused. "She's his ex-girlfriend, but considering she has such a small brain that is a size of a peanut, she won't leave him alone. I mean like seriously, EX; has she not heard of that quote, 'Thanks for the EXperience, Our time has EXpired, now EXit my life.' She is one clueless bimbo. Then again who would leave him alone he is S-E-X-Y!" I laughed. "I am going to love being your friend." I said while I looked back to where he had headed a while ago, but I no longer saw him. I sighed disappointed.
I heave in an astronomical breathe. Dumped Death Dad Downpour That just sums up my whole day. But the only thought that's racking through my depressing brain right now as I stare up at the unexpectedly dark sky is... I should've brought an umbrella. I step out into the cold wind, splatters of raindrops hitting my cheeks. I trudge through the wet pavement, my sneakers soaking up the water. Dumped Death Dad Downpour Summarization of my fucked up day. I shiver as the cold raindrops begin pouring heavier, the water saturating through my hair and soaking my clothes. I stop immediately when I hear a helpless whimper coming from the alley beside a small bakery. I hear it again, low and sad. I step towards the sound and find two green eyes staring up at me belonging to a black cat. It's coat drenched and it's whiskers drooping low. Like it's frowning. Even in my damp mood I feel sorry for the little animal. "You don't have a home, little guy?" I ask, squatting to see it better. Did it just shake its head!? I blink a few times and sigh. I'm probably seeing things. It's been overwhelmingly negative lately. I reach a hand for the feline and it corresponds, tucking its head under it. I pet it's wet coat and stare at it as it closes its eyes. I can't leave such a pitiful thing next to the dumpsters and cold rain to be frozen alive or ravished by stray dogs. The corner of his mouth tilts upward slightly. I smile again. A smile!? A tiny one, but still. "Hm. So I got you to smile, that's progress, yeah? Can I get your name now?" I ask, swinging my feel a little. He shakes his head shyly, his mouth not moving at all. Geez! Why do I want to hear this dude talk so much? "Okay, that's fine. I can give you a nickname." I offer happily. He looks up from his book, raising his eyebrows. I just stare for a moment. He has nice eyes. Pretty brown chocolate orbs. They remind me so much of....... "Teddy." He shakes his head immediately, frowning. "What, why not? You remind me of my old teddy bear. He was a good listener and he didn't talk much..... just like you." I say softly, tilting my head. He continues to shake his head. I fold my arms, leaning back in my seat. "Yeah, it's definitely sticking. Teddy.....It has a nice ring to it, yeah?" He sighs, the first sound I have ever heard him make. "No." . . . *Jordan* Teddy!? Seriously!? She gave me a fucking NICKNAME!? What the hell does this girl want!? I stuff my hands into my pockets, walking down the busy street. Forget about her. She's just a annoying pretty girl, she'll go away. Everybody does. She HAS to go away. *Spoiler alert*: she doesn't. Don't get close to people or they'll end up getting hurt. That's my mindset. I've been through enough of that. This girl doesn't belong in my world anyway. She's too innocent. *Mature content* {Just a quick update, I am basically rewriting the story. I wrote it when I was in 8th grade and it makes me cringe every time I try to go back and edit it so keep in mind that it'll get better}
He once told me no one knows the real him.I didn't think he meant it, and not in a good way. He is a straight A student, and everyone knows it, not to mention he is on the swim team. All that though isn't the real him, the real him hides deep within himself. ---------- "Can you please tell me what that was?" I nearly shout at him. All I get is silence. He keeps his back to me. "Please, I need some explanation." I beg. I stay still as he stops dead in his tracks. His body is tense and it's scarring me. He turns around slowly to face me with his hands at his sides. His eyes meet mine, but there is no spark of any emotion in them. They are cold and dark making me look away not being able to hold his deadly stare. I feel uneasy under his gaze, and i feel his eyes burning a hole in the side of my face. "No, I won't explain because it's not important." He says in a low, almost, growl. I flinch and look back into his eyes. I feel hurt by his words and I don't know why, but I know he sees it in my eyes. His faces flashes with regret but it's quickly covered up with his faces going back to it's hard cold look. I feel my heart stop and my face go pale. His look terrified me making me hold my breath. "Breath." He orders. I start to breathe again and just blink at him. "Now go." He orders me again. I flinch involuntarily at his tone and jump back slightly. "Please don't let me walk home alone." I beg in a quiet voice, looking down at my feet. The next thing I see are his black combat boots right in front of my shoes. I look up into his eyes and he looks down into mine confusion written all over his face. "How come you aren't running yet?" He questions searching my eyes. "I just can't walk home alone, please I'm scared." I hear him chuckle. "You aren't afraid of me? What can possibly be scarier than me?" He asks. "Well, I know you will keep me safe." "Why is that?" He questions raising an eyebrow at me. "You haven't hurt me." "Yet." He mutters, but I roll my eyes.
