Arden Shimizu doesn't believe in fate, the same way she doesn't believe in ghosts or true love or something bigger. And those are probably reasons why she thinks that the whole 'clock on your body that counts the second until you meet your soulmate' is bullshit. And then she meets her soulmate when her clock suddenly jumps forward by 52 years when she's on her way to an anti-soulmate protest. Ironic?- like fucking fate knows it.
Nicolo Favero has always been told that he was a boy with a heart 2 sizes too big for his chest. So yeah, the whole 'timer on your wrist' thing was kinda binding and fucking sucked sometimes, but Nic took comfort that somewhere out there, they was meant to be a person whose heart matched his own uncontainable one. So he of course, get a soulmate without one at all.

The Girls with the Flame Tattoos
In this society, everyone has a soulmate. And the way to find yours is just look. Along with a soulmate, everyone has a small tattoo on their cheek with a symbol. Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek. They live in the same state but for 4 years Harper paniced because she couldn't find her match. She wasn't sure if it was because her sm wasn't of age yet or if her sm lived far away. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper.
