My jaw flexed as my head throbbed, the grass beneath my bare feet cold against my skin. I didn't get the chance to reply, his sinister smile on full display as he took a daring step forward. I planted my feet, rooting myself to the ground as he began to taunt me further.

Swallowing the nervous lump in my throat, I threw up my guard, chilled my expression, and bowed my head. The urge to throw up all over this monster's feet was overwhelming, but showing my cards so soon was not an option.
