After the balloons in his chaotic head popped, Arthur had visited Sophie.. We saw that in the movie..

In her mind, Sophie replays this moment & other events that we saw in the movie are also seen from Sophie's perspective. In the first chapter she's overthinking her past 'meetings' with Arthur, after she found out some horrible facts about him.
