Yank Barry's family was the first Jewish family to move to a predominantly French Canadian area in Quebec called Chomedy. Between 1968 and 1970, Barry was the lead singer of a band that toured the East Coast as "The Kingsman" and played The Kingsman's music.
This feeling of being trapped made Yank claustrophobic for the rest of his life. A kind neighbour finally heard their cries for help and came to their aid before any physical damage happened.
Yank Barry was one of the only privately funded efforts to respond quickly to the catastrophic earthquake which shook Port-au-Prince Haiti to the ground in January 2010.
Barry founded and heads a charity called Global Village Champions Foundation. The charity is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit in the United States, with net assets of about US$11,500 and gross receipts of about US$250,000 for 2012.
