It isn't easy being a black teenager. Drugs, alcohol, gangs. Well this teen is lucky enough to only do 2 of those. This story starts off in a dark time in his life, to him finding love, to him in an even worst time for him to be alive.

The intruders words rang through my head, over and over again; like a broken record. "This is all your fault." My father spit. Breaking anything in his path. That day the old him was gone, never to return. The nightmare of this day would haunt me in my sleep; as my life was never the same. Life was unfair, the world is a horrible place. It was like everything came crashing down at one moment. The only person I had left after that was my best friend... We slowly grew apart as he didn't know what went on behind the doors of my house. Years passed, as the day still made my life worse. Not having the money to move I was still stuck in the same house... By the same river. Soon anouther murrder happened, the same way as... My mother's. Suspicions spread though the small town. A twenty minute ride to there. I would live in town to if I had the money. That day when the decective came to the door; it was just fate. As I didn't know it then... But, he would save me. It... Was just something about the way he looked at me; that made my heart go a mile a minute. Why do bad things happen to good people? A question that his boy is making himself more then ever this days. From the beginning we see a 17 year old boy, struggling to finish high School, filled up with insecurities, mental health issues, a toxic family home, and impossible standards to live up to. He has learn to not only hate his life, but to want finish it off as fast as possible. Close to finally graduating high school his English teacher, Mr Steve, assigns the class a special progect. "To be able to see life through different eyes, and write about it." For this, Mr Steve gets his class to assist a hospital 3 times a week, and assigns each student, with a patient. This is the moment where this boy meets Royal, a cancer sick 17 year old girl, that has lived in a hospital her hole life, but still finds beauty and meaning in it. Through out the report the boy gets more and more involved in Royal's life, spending unfortunately moments together. But through out the journey he asks himself more and more.
