After encountering intelligent life in the galaxy, Humanity is locked in a deadly civil war. On one side is the USC, created from the combined governments of the Humans and the alien Tinians. In an alternative universe, the tension between the Russians and Americans lasts much longer than through the 1980s. In fact, after years of experimenting, the Russian government has finally created young, living super soldiers. Their scientists have made breakthroughs in neurobiology, the structure of human DNA, and embryology that allows them to miraculously create several human traits together and then nurture and grow these artificial humans in an incubation chamber. These two start their journey in Russia, manage to make it to France, and find their final destination the United States of America, which they understand is the home of the free and the brave. However, they learn reality is not always what it seems. Join Nick and Nikki as they seek to live a normal life in America, despite everything about them and the life they live being everything but normal.

Ellie’s daughter will be returned unharmed if Ellie does as they wish. The son of a company director is lost somewhere in the wilderness of post-debt-restructuring America, and hasn't been seen for three days. The company wants Ellie to go and find the kid, and Ellie doesn't know if she can. The one rule she's stuck to all her working life is to never to go to America, but now she might have to. She will have to, if she wants to save the daughter she hasn't seen in years.
