Pierce Whitaker isn't a happy or loving human being, but he has a very dear friend, which most people would think is strange if they knew. It isn't that he has a friend, but who his friend is: a 16 foot long hammerhead shark. He had always had the ability to speak to sharks, but he's never known why.
Then one day, after a weird mishap, Pierce meets a girl. There's something about her that makes him curious... is she the answer to all of his problems? Is there a connection to her and his strange abilities? Pierce is about to find out the hard way.

"I've tried telling them I'm only fifteen. That no sane government would force a boy my age to fight crime. 'But Max, you're a superhero! Isn't this what you want?' Actually, no. I just kind of want to get through high school. Then we'll talk about this 'superhero' business." Max Owens is your average high school sophomore. Well, he tries to be, at least. At fifteen, he's got more important things to do than fight the infamous Vinicus Cauldwell. With his single mother having recently lost her job, Max is determined to help his family get back up on its feet. The publicity and pressure that comes with being a superhero would be too much to handle right now. But it's hard to fly under the radar, when you can literally fly. Meanwhile, Vinicus Cauldwell enjoys the power he has as Murkbourne's most feared super-villain. For once, he can sit back and relax without being pestered by the police. That is, until Max arrives. Vinicus isn't happy about having to fight a child, but he can't let Max find out. After all, super-villains can't be "good people"... Can they? We can't all be born heroes. "He seemed like a puzzle to me, and I really liked solving puzzles. But somehow, I don't think that I would ever be able to solve this one." Amelia Heart, with her large smile and her infectious laugh, is what most people would think has the perfect life. They would watch as she went back to her beach house, as she went out of her way to stop and chat to her neighbours, as she would get the perfect grades. She was everything you wanted to be, and yet nobody had gotten close enough to her to understand her life in this small town at all. When her plans of leaving suddenly change, and she is forced to start attending the local school, her life takes a route that she hadn't accounted for. A new group of friends, a chance at a normal teenage life, even a potential love interest - things that Amelia had never even thought about happening after everything she'd been through. But happiness is only temporary in her life, and she knew that. It wasn't surprising to her when her past began to catch up with her present, it was simply a good thing that it had taken as long as it had. Things start happening in Amelia's life that simply don't make sense, even to her. They do say you should always keep an eye over your shoulder, especially when you know you're being hunted, but for Amelia, even an eye in every direction wouldn't be enough. Time begins counting down, fast. Did she want to involve her friends? Could the new people in her life be trusted? She wouldn't have long to make a decision.
