'Love. Donnie couldn't help but ponder what that word really meant in this circumstance. You were not exclusively his, nor vice versa, so what did 'I love you' truly mean in this position?
He thought about how distant the true meaning of 'love' had drifted from the word itself in his own mind; he'd heard the word so many times that it had nearly lost its meaning. Almost as if it undermined the true severity of what it implied.
The word was strong and important, but not sacred. At least not within his family. DId that make his feelings significant anymore?
