Zing a 6 year old dragonet is a orphan. He is different then the other dragons. His scales are different and his lighting is brighter and stronger than anyone has seen, and when thunder the orphanage keeper tells him what happened when he hatched. He and his sister zaplin leave the lightning territory to find others like him.

Kya is a six year old from Arctica and younger twin sister to her older twin brother Korren, and future chief of Arctica. Kya has always stayed in the shadows not wanting to be seen as Korren's little sister. She wanted to be something more. She wanted to be a Dragon Rider after she heard the stories about them from some traders from Eura, who come to Arctica to trade with the villages. Kya's prayers to Suka the Polar Bear, one of the fifteen Great Beasts, are answered when a woman claiming to be Dragon Rider comes to their village. When Kya touches a dark purple dragon egg and it hatches Kya becomes one of the legendary Dragon Riders. Nimue is a non important six year old from Oceanus. She is always swimming in the ocean where she feels comfortable, but on land with people she never feels comfortable, especially when the so called people are whispering about her calling her a freak and a witch. As with firescales dragonets, the ancient SkyWings were certain that animus dragons were too much of a threat to be allowed to live. Those hatched with the curse were killed upon realization of their gifts, before they could do harm to the tribe. But one animus wasn't afraid of his tribe, but for it. He knew the vulnerability that his tribe could face in the event of war.
