Zing a 6 year old dragonet is a orphan. He is different then the other dragons. His scales are different and his lighting is brighter and stronger than anyone has seen, and when thunder the orphanage keeper tells him what happened when he hatched. He and his sister zaplin leave the lightning territory to find others like him.

She wanted to be a Dragon Rider after she heard the stories about them from some traders from Eura, who come to Arctica to trade with the villages. Kya's prayers to Suka the Polar Bear, one of the fifteen Great Beasts, are answered when a woman claiming to be Dragon Rider comes to their village. When Kya touches a dark purple dragon egg and it hatches Kya becomes one of the legendary Dragon Riders. Nimue is a non important six year old from Oceanus.
