Lillian and Shelle are paired. One can read emotions, one can fake emotions. Both love each other. But that isn't allowed. All pairs in Illegnia have one person who can read emotions and one who can fake emotions. The reader can read any other Reader's emotions, from just a look on their faces. The Faker can place false emotions on their faces, and the only person who can read them is their pair.
But if a pair falls in love, they will be split apart, and never have the life of a human. The point of living on Illegnia is to be paired, but Lillian and Shelle don't want to separate or change... Even if it means they have to tear the world down to be together.
