High Elven Mages and Druids of the ancient elven lands of Kaelthun came together for one reason - to save elvenkind. Kaelthun was at war with the Human Kingdoms of Teslath with four of its Kings. Several Elven kingdoms were destroyed, forcing several hands to do the unthinkable.
Six magic users gathered at the border of the Kingdom of Telessi to conjure from the darkest pit of energy - the Abyss. The six Elves created a fissure in the ground that forced a shadowy veil to erupt straight up into the air. This veil of abyssal energy completely isolated the eastern Kingdoms of Kaelthun from the rest of the continent.
The actions of those six Elves saved thousands more Elves from certain death. No one from outside of the veil can enter, but there are consequences for using such dark magic. Allowing a consistent source of Abyssal magic into the world caused the eastern part of Kaelthun to fall into an eternal night. High Elves and Lowland Elves a like became infected by the blast of abyssal magic causing them to mutate. Being exposed to so much darkness was transformative. The Elves became darker - skin tones ranging from a faint purple to a crescent grey. Hair can be several dark shades and eyes generally are silver, blue, and very rarely are black. These are Elves now call themselves Stygian Elves and it is time for a new kingdom to rise on the continent of Kaelthun.

At the Fields of Fire and Blood
The world is dying. Heaven and Hell have broken and collapsed, creating a post-apocalyptic landscape that is part purgatory, part platonic world of ideas, blighted by the horrors of the human mind. The sun lies dormant in the east, atop God's tower, while the west is plunged into darkness and haunted by all that lives there. There is no day and night cycle, nothing grows, nothing dies, nothing changes, unless magic is involved. Angels hunt creatures for their blood, to feed it to God so he can finish gestating. Demons kill and destroy aimlessly, their origins inexplicable and unknown. Stranger beings wander the ruins of what's left of the world. Humans need not eat or sleep, caught in a state between life and death. They cannot die or be born naturally, but they can be killed and they can be made. The few that survived with their sanity somewhat intact have locked themselves into warded cities, but their protections are feeble and often ineffective. The Order that united them is long gone, broken into factions known only by the sins for which they have fallen. The Houses that protected them are crumbling, falling into ruin as their members were culled down by angels and demons, as well as their own mad quest to save the world; the Pilgrimage, a vain attempt to steal into Eden and murder God himself. Soon, only the Scions will remain. Those that were left not due to merit, but because they were the last choice for being heroes. Those whose memories and minds are as damaged and eaten through as their world. Those who agreed to take on the mysterious Archons within their bodies and, through that contract, had ancient relics and rituals passed down to them. They converge onto a long forgotten neutral ground, trying to save themselves. A heroic journey through a nightmarish wonderland. A pilgrimage to God's tower, to make the world whole again. As happened many times in the past the Fell Ice once again charged down from the north and attacked the world in its effort to turn it into a frozen ball of ice. Only the White Magic and it's ally the Sun could stand against such a vast enemy. From their home in the Valley of the Sun the great tribe of Elves could only watch as the monumental fight unfolded. As the battle intensified and the valley became threatened the tribe separated back into their four original tribes and each made their way back to their ancestral homes. Within their Vales, behind thick stone walls and under powerful domes of magic, they were protected from the onslaught upon the earth. The Elves watched for thousands upon thousands of turns as the war raged overhead. The Fell Ice against the Sun and the White Magic were locked in a struggle lasting for an age, with neither side claiming victory as the earth was ravaged. In time the Fell Ice retreated, as it had so many times in the past. Beaten, yet not defeated, only biding it's time for the next attack. It returned to its frozen Kingdom at the Top of the World, thus ending this last Age of Ice. This time, as the earth warmed around them, the Elves remained secluded from the world in their hidden Vales. They observed from afar life returning to the lands and took stock of man becoming the dominant ones as their numbers grew and spread. As the Elves watched they felt safe and secure in their Vale strongholds. They had no idea of the danger that was about to befall them.
