this is a relatively truthful retelling of the DnD campaign I run. changed some of the dialogue, added to the scenes and I can't for the life of me remember the scenes in the beginning so I improvised.

This story features sexual jokes and descriptions, some gore and references to assault, slavery, war and prosecution. If you do not like these themes, this story is not for you.

roughly 300 years ago, nobody knows why, the leaders of two of the five kingdoms started to wage war against the fire plane, pulling the others in with them. the chances looked grim for the humans, but amidst the chaos emerged the rumour of an elven artifact, powerful enough to enchant items as large as a ballista in a matter of seconds, and give weapons godlike powers, appropriately named "the elven eye". the high elves, who were said to be the only ones who knew the true whereabouts of the artifact, refused cooperation, perhaps to avoid more bloodshed, perhaps to distance themselves. this was, however, taken as ill will towards the humans and favour to the soldiers of the fire plane, which caused king Roicc of the silver tundra to open a hunt on them. many were killed, families torn apart, children enslaved. nothing became of this bloodshed, the elven eye remained a secret, and after their loss, the entire western hemisphere being walled off from the remaining world by fire as punishment, the new queen of the lake castle declared the prosecution of any other creature, including elves, as illegal and immoral, doing her best to crack down on any slave trade and illegal hunters, and to reunite the elves. now, 200 years later, things have become more normal. the last spoils of war are long gone, and all that is left is a faint memory of dark times...

but all dark times leave something behind...

Something that lingers and waits to strike at the right time.

There's Angus Mcloud, a brute of a barbarian, wielding strength that can shake mountains, and Rex, an 8-foot crocodile lizardfolk brawler with unyielding resilience. Azair, a dhampir magician, uses arcane trickery to manipulate and deceive, while Ellana, an elven huntress, was framed for crimes she did not commit. Esme had one big fear in life: being captured as a thief by the city's guardsmen and being executed for her crimes, and that so heavily weighed on her mind that she increased her risks by being distracted in the middle of a heist. That's when she runs into Althalos Fourthborn: Inner Circle Guardsman, one of the many princes of the realm, an Aelif (Dark Elf, local dialect)...and her betrothed by treaty. (That was something her almost human mind could not handle.) So she calls off the heist, gets demoted into a far more risky job, learns the true bitter depth of what this treaty's bond is like, and lands safely by her prince's side....sort of. There were people who still wanted to end her life, even if she was in what most people would call a Happily Ever After. That and her prince had his own living fears that were gnawing at any chance they had. That and she might just lose her mind from everyday boredom. But the one she couldn't wrap her all-too human mind around was that she would one day grow wings and fly away from her almost Happily Ever After to live in a hive with ancestors more alien than a hottie with pointed ears and abandonment issues. ~~~~ Yes, there are adult themes in this book, and difficult subjects, but nothing is excessive, as this is probably my simplest story. So, trigger warnings: A history of assault. Occasional vulgar language. References to partial cannibaliam. Extremely mild, light, and rare sex scenes. At least one elitist mentality. ~~~~ Ages of MC/ML: Esme: Apparent age of 24, roughly 20 years lived (mostly human). Althalos: Apparent age of 30, roughly 65 years lived (Elves mature slower).

If you have questions about, don't hesitate to ask. The roof crashed down at the speed of lightning, crushing me under the table as I gasped for air. My mind scrambling to process what had happened as I felt rubble falling around me, surrounding me in darkness. I reached up, my arm stinging as I hit the hard wood table over me, which was keeping the rubble off me, miraculously. I wiped my forehead, sweat, and probably blood dripping down my arm and side of head as I reached for a nearby rock, trying to push on it, hoping that it might help me out of this disaster. "Mom? Betty?" I called, hoping for a response, only to get none. I didn't even get the slightest whimper from any of them. What the heck happened? "Mom?! Betty?!" I screamed this time, trying to push myself up onto my back, my leg killing me so much that I had to give up. I laid back down on the ground, placing my hand on the bottom of the table; anger, fear, confusion getting the best of me. I screamed as I banged my fists on the wood table. "MOM? BETTY?" Nothing. I was ready to bang on the wood again, but I flinched back when I heard the sound of moving rubble. Whoever it is was almost near where I was, and ... moving quickly. So, there's no possible way that it was a human. It would take hundreds do men to lift these boulders, but whoever this person is, is stronger than anyone I would kn- My thoughts froze as I watched something large wrap around the edges of the table, lifting it up; my eyes widening as I came face to face with the largest creature known to mankind. A giant. (This is my book from my own brain. These are my own characters based off my family members. Please do not steal it.)

A white-cloaked figure stands on the balcony of a tower, their face hidden in the shadows of a hood. They peer over the banister, seeing hundreds, if not thousands, of Elves standing below them, screaming and shouting. All of them eagerly waiting. The hood falls back, revealing pointed ears, long silver hair, and glowing purple eyes. Her words, yet spoken at a normal volume, somehow travel easily through the crowd below her. "Greetings, people of Kamthas. I come before you today as a new Apprentice of the High Oracles. Today, I shall speak my First Prophecy." The screams below immediately fall silent, a hush falling over the large crowd that ripples like a wave. Her arms shake as she raises them to the sky, tilting her head back as the morning sun bathes her in its golden light. A soft glow seems to emanate from her and her purple eyes glaze over, her voice becoming deeper and fuller, spilling from her uncontrollably. "The rabbit will save us from the snake." ⋆˙⟡ ⟡˙⋆ Lyrael is a human, through and through. There is no denying a fact. However, there's something that has always bothered her when she looks in a mirror. She looks wrong. Her tangled black hair looks wrong, her sharp blue eyes look wrong, and most of all, her warm, never-changing tan skin just looks... wrong. Her life is completely upended one fateful spring day when her father mysteriously disappears. His trail leads directly over the Border, the very Border her father forbade her from ever crossing, the one that separated Elves from the humans. And according to everything she's ever been taught, Elves are barbaric, vicious creatures who attack humans unprovoked, for no reason other than simple enjoyment. Despite all of that, there are two things she knows to be true. 1. She must save him. and 2... She is definitely just a human. This story is about friendship, magic, loyalty, and, most importantly, finding out who the hell Lyrael Waestris truly is.
