The Worst Days for Dogs

The summer of 2004, bathed in a steamy blue haze of fog and melancholy. Down the streets of a coastal town. Down roads like Boice, and Oceanside. Down dirt paths, and the sandy slopes. Down the gas trailing snakes through the fields of beachgrass. Down the crashing waves, and tangled seaweed. I had the worst summer of my life. I was a scrawny, dirty blonde headed, stubbly, 17 year old boy. And I say boy. Because I was just a fucking child. A stupid, young boy. Just like my older sister was a dumb, numb girl. But like my eldest brother, he was a man. Beause Father made it only a month into the summer. Mother made nothing of it, since she was dead the few months prior. And Junah watched over us, with his comforting crystal blue eyes. He made sure everything was okay. Fucking golden that kid. That's my Big brother. And Leean always got into trouble in her little BMW. Or her boyfriend Jake. That's my sister. And then there's me, Sean.
Just, being Sean. Being sad, being lonely. But little did I know, how much. Fighting in life, was going to change everything. Tangoing with depression, made a dance I'd never forget. Screaming and festering and writhing. They would have honestly been the worst days for dogs.
