In the year 2041 an endemic has spread throughout the world. Everyone older then 18 is at risk. There is no cure, and those who come in contact with the disease slowly give in to madness before their eventual death. Any younger then 18, however, are not free from danger. They carry the virus hidden within their blood, and will transmit it to adults around them through contact. Any child under the age of 18 seen without a parent is considered a threat. And threats are to be eliminated.
Maya story begins apart from the traumas of the outside world. She has been closed off and locked away in secret; hidden because of what she is. Her family lives in fear of the powers she holds hidden within her. Powers that have come from seemingly no where, and that appear after what her mother calls the 'Devil's Song'. They've tried anything and everything to suppress her ability, making sure she lives in fear of the outside world to keep her imprisoned; where they have total control. This has left her spirit in taters, and her body a husk of what it's supposed to be.
When she is released from her family's clutches by a strange boy who she doesn't know whether to trust, will she be able to face the outside world? Or will she drown in the forbidden power seeking freedom from its cage?
