Two years after the emptying of the Iron Hallway, Brant Nayan finds himself on a quest for divinity. A member of an organization devoted to restoring the Alcontean gods to the world, he constantly pushes himself to his physical and mental limits in preparation. 

Not least of his exertions are his many missions to wage war on the growing rebellions against Alconte, foremost of which is the one headed by Princess Chariya of Kemaria. When he stages a battle against a stronghold operated by her and fails, he finds himself a captive and is forced to question everything he knows, and everything he holds dearest.
