В данном рассказе действие происходит в альтернативной реальности, в которой каждый города и улицы имеют сознание.  В этой реальности также идёт постоянная борьба света с тьмой.  Каждую ночь, когда все уже спят, тьма снова и снова наступает, улицы и города сдерживают её по средством своих стражей- фонарей. На утро приходит рыцарь и прогоняет тьму и обещает улицам всегда защищать их, а потом покидает их. Идёт защищать другие улицы, другие города. Бездушный цикл. Раз за разом. День за днём. Одно и то же. Но только не улицы, только не они. У них есть мнение, только сказать его не кому. Для людей это  самый обычный мир.  Для людей улицы- бездушные строения.  Люди не знают ни доблестного рыцаря ни о его вечном сражении с тьмой. Основой этой истории является рассказ далёкой всеми забытой улицы.
