As a boy in Salem his description of a nightmarish ghost condemned his mother to death for witchcraft at the hands of the zealous enforcers of puritan law, the Inquisition. Shortly afterwards Good's father left, leaving him to be raised and trained by the Inquisition, but when his first campaign was against a tribe of natives, Good turned against the Inquisition and lived a life of exile since, working as a log rider through the colonies, earning him the name "Driftwood" by the colonists.
But after being accused and convicted of two ghastly murders in Boston committed by the specter of his childhood nightmares, Good fled the city under pursuit of the Inquisition with his childhood friend, Anne Parrish, who is also tormented by the specter in a terrible way.
Now, after rescuing a wizard from the hordes of the specter, Good has learned his haunt is only one of a trio of terrors who seek to ravage the colonies.
