This test is done to find out the level of transferrin in the blood. Transferrin is a type of protein made by the liver. It works by connecting iron to various parts of the body. When there is a deficiency of iron, transferrin is formed in excess. Iron in the body is associated with this protein in large amounts; hence the transferrin test also helps to monitor the level of iron.
