❝ we'll pray for our freedom ❞

bert lives and breathes for the core and serving his country. though months spent fighting the good war changes a man when brought back to reality and civilization. after an injury a during his first deployment, he hasn't been the same. the wound is healed, but the scar will always remain open. upon arriving back from a tour in afghanistan, he and a few buddies celebrate at a local bar where everything changes.

gerard isn't the least bit proud of his lifestyle and line of work. long nights of cruising bars and street corners to get through. though he despises himself and his job, he does what he needs to bring
home money for his mother and little brother. even if it means selling himself. all he's known from a young age is responsibility. but one working night when many platoons arrive back from deployment gerard has an encounter with a soldier unlike any other in the past two years of this line of work.

little do they realize that encounter changes 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜.

"i'm sorry i didn't check on you and i'm sorry i didn't go find you. i'm so sorry," he rubbed my back, "i'm sorry i ran away," i loosened my grip the tiniest bit when he spoke out, "don't let go," i chuckled quietly, "i'm not going to, ever," •••• self harm, abuse, and mature themes used throughout the story. lowercase intended
