Rae Jackson grew up in a small town in south Georgia, she knows little about her family's history but has never bothered to press her parents for details. Her childhood best friend Charlotte Ford is the daughter of the town Mayor, Theodore C. Ford Jr. The Fords are extremely wealthy and influential, three generations of women in Rae's family worked for the Fords as Housekeepers so Rae has always considered them her second family. When she and Charlotte go away to college Rae finds in an old leather makeup bag of Charlotte's, a weathered envelope holding a letter composed by her Gran addressed:To my beloved Sister. The letter thanked someone for comforting her during her final days of cancer. Rae was always told her Gran was an only child, and that she died in an unfortunate barn fire. This begins her curiosity to learn more about her family and to discover why the truth was withheld from her. Along the way she finds herself falling for a guy, meeting new friends, and doing things no southern belle ever should!
