Since their time in the Soul Reaper Academy, Shunsui and Shuriken have been close. Although certain parts of their personality clash at times, there's no one that understands the two of them more than each other; that is, of course, except for the final member of their trio, Jushiro. There's always been a bond between Shunsui and Shuriken though, one that differs from the love they share for their sickly friend.

Although, despite the years that pass, the two never seem to hit it off in the way that all of their friends hope for. Something always comes in the way of Shunsui and Shuriken confessing their feelings and admitting their undying love for one another.
