15 year old school loser Alyssa Carter has never been listened to by anyone in her life.She had always been ignored by people at school, her "friends" left her when they were invited to hang with the popular clique, and is always getting made fun of for her spot in the San Diego High School marching band.
But on Sunday, Alyssa's last day of peace before 5 days of torment, she earns enough money to buy a camera. Scared of IRLs finding her videos, or the possible cyber-torment Alyssa fears, she records them, but doesn't release them. After she records her first 5 videos, which were all about her life.
After she's done recording, she goes down to the kitchen while it is importing to her laptop.. while there, her older brother, James uploads the videos to YouTube. The next day, Alyssa has become even more of a loser at school. Oblivious as to why her climb on the School Social chain has declined even more, she gets more and more notifications on her phone. She checks them, only to find out that the videos have gone viral!
While she may be a loser at school, the YouTube comments have deemed her to be relatable, not like almost every other big Ytber with beautiful blonde hair and clear skin and Sephora makeup. They liked the bushy black-haired girl with acne and very little to no makeup. Determined to keep her YouTube life separate from her complicated school life, she records more and more videos, each getting more views than the last.
But in the midst of Alyssa's 15 minutes of Online Fame, rumors of an affair between her father and someone else spread around town. Aly had just started to get more comfortable and confident on and off camera. Now, Aly and James' lives were ruined. With a broken reputation, and a camera Alyssa starts to record videos again. Each vid getting more and more personal. her and her brother's reps have started to patch itself up. Will it stay that way?
