Emma Hart went into her senior year with the intention to fall in love with Jackson O'Keeffe, the cute foreign exchange student from Australia living with her best friend. Emma's bucket list had the one goal of finding love in high school whereas Jackson dreamed of a foreign romance far away from what was awaiting him at home. Each got what they wanted from the beginning, but in the end neither left feeling satisfied with what they received.
Heartbroken, Emma decided to follow through with the rest of her life goals before reaching thirty. Fall in love, get married, and start a family. Only, while her list was followed perfectly, what Emma hadn't anticipated was falling out of love, divorcing, and her ex starting a new family. Emma decides to travel home as a newly single mother for the holidays, hoping the change of scene will distract her daughter from the events surrounding them.
Waiting at home is not only family and friends she hasn't talked to in years, but an old flame she never thought she'd see again. Upon seeing Jack, Emma's life is once again thrown for a spiral and she has to eventually face her feelings the question of whether the past can truly stay in the past.

He and Mikayla are fighting habitually, his home life is still unbearable, and his time at school is hardly any better, made worse by a bully named Calvin. Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school.
