Northwood Academy for the Supernatural is a school for "monster" teens located in the dense forest of West Virginia. It was founded to be a safe haven five years ago by the infamous Count Dracula DeVille while his daughter, Emberlynn, was in middle school. Now, Emberlynn is a sixteen-year-old high school junior on Northwood's "Human Path," a path of classes designed to prepare young monsters for a human-run world.

Jessica Williams is an average teen from the small town of Beckley, West Virginia. She was going into her junior year of high school when her mom decided to transfer her into a school for gifted teens. Now she must survive the school year on her own and to make matters worse, this school isn't all it seems.

It doesn't take long for Jessica and Emberlynn to meet and they quickly form a bond that quickly grows into more than a friendship. When Emberlynn goes missing though, all fingers point at the poor human who managed to get herself enrolled into a school for the supernatural.
