Nick noticed that his best friend/Drumline Captain, Harriet, hasn't been showing up to rehearsals lately. After discovering that she has quit Marching Band all together, Nick confronts Harriet at her home to find out why she's decided to throw it all away.
(This is an excerpt on a novel I've been working on. Not sure if I will continue with it, thought this little sneak-peak might let me know if it's something worth pursuing.)

He took a step closer, the smirk not leaving his face as he could sense my irritation. "I've been looking forward to this for far too long," he laughed, licking his lips. "And for once, I'm gonna be the one knocking the smug smile off of your face." My scowl deepened, confused as to what he was talking about. He took another step forward, standing close enough for me to get a whiff of his minty breath and aftershave.
