Sixteen year-old Rachel has had a hard life trying to escape the future her promiscuous mother and drug-dealing stepfather have laid out for her. She's a shy, quiet bookworm and her only escape is Tanner, her neighbor and secret best friend.
Eighteen year-old Tanner would do anything for Rachel, including letting her sleep in his room every night for the past six years and taking care of her when her mother and stepfather abuse her. He is torn between doing what's right and doing what is expected as he starts his senior year as a popular playboy and prepares to leave for college.
