Berlin after WWII was kind of in a sticky position. On one hand, she had the Soviets up her ass and an unstable Russian man to deal with on a daily basis, and on the other hand, she had America rooting for her from the sidelines. Being split in half literally, and ripped apart figuratively was not the best way to spend 40 years, but everything has to end at some point.
