eren attained the strange ability to see the remaining life span of a person by looking at numbers floating on the top of their heads only he can see. He himself questioned it's accuracy and validity and yet whenever the numbers were reduced to 0 the person would always drop dead. He had witnessed that  too many times as well as the gradual decrease of the numbers floating on top of his mother's head...
    
    now at 22 years eren encounters levi ackerman, a patient at his father's hospital who's numbers are nowhere to be seen
