"How have you not opened it?"

"I just couldn't bring myself to." I mumbled.

"Couldn't bring yourself to?" She stood up and placed herself so she stood above me, fists clenched, her voice getting louder by the second. "You have the paper that holds the answers to all of our questions and you don't open it?! How could you be so selfish?" Her face started to flush red.

"Jasmine-" Officer Gale began but I cut her off.

I knew from now on I was going to have to be the one to take charge and frankly, I was angry that she thought she could blame this on me and call me selfish. I stood up and met her face to face, standing taller than her, "How dare you call me selfish! You think I asked for this?"

She didn't back down, "How is it that you get to be the only one that gets a letter and you don't even bother to open it? What if it could've been some kind of relief to the rest of us?"

"What exactly are you insinuating here?"

"Maybe Dad wouldn't have tried to kill himself if you would've opened that letter!"

I was shocked, so shocked that my mouth just dropped. How could she say something like that? I wanted to think she was in the wrong for being angry with me but I couldn't help but wonder. Was she right?
