A short story in which a seemingly ordinary girl named Pella Lovell gets invited to join the TCS - a somewhat strange "organisation" where magic is commonplace. They haven't taken anyone on in years which raises the question: Why now? And also another question: Why Pella? And perhaps even a third question: Why not?

"Usually innocents like you have time to grow into their magic before they have to break the rules. You don't have that time, Minta. Please believe me, you need to be ready. Sawyer is among the most powerful of all the kids at the place. The leader, who is also her abusive, selfish father, sends her to a city to seek this mysterious source of magic that he has been trying to find for years. He claims he's tried to seek it himself in the same city, but has never found it. While Sawyer is trying to find it, instead, she finds Eli. Eli and Sawyer tell a lot about themselves to each other. Sawyer then finds out, there's a lot more to Eli than she thought when she discovers his psychic abilities... she is extremely tempted to do multiple risks that she's never thought she'd be able to do.
